Job Description:

The Product Development Specialist is responsible for coordinating and facilitating interactions among designers, sales reps, customers, and suppliers. They execute the headwear development process for DP core brands, licensed product and private label projects as requested from designers, sales professionals, and customers. They are responsible for multiple steps in the product lifecycle including the creation of accurate spec detail sheets, supplier pricing and MOQ negotiations that ensure every detailed step in the project is completed from sample development to final customer approval of the product.

This individual must work well under pressure, meeting multiple and sometimes competing deadlines. They must demonstrate and appreciate the value of a team atmosphere which is key to the department. The position requires someone who is detail orientated, organized, takes initiative, and is a proactive problem solver.

Reporting Relationships:

Reports directly to the Manager of Product Development. Works closely with and will take direction from Sr. VP of Merchandise and Marketing as well as designers.

Scope of Duties:

  • Coordinate with designers, sales professionals, customers, and Global suppliers on a daily basis to develop new products in a timely and accurate manner
  • Work closely with merchandising and sourcing teams as well as designers to analyze current market trends to ensure consistency of styling
  • Provide accurate and timely information to facilitate appropriate reports and assist in technical production to team
  • Maintain master spreadsheet (Smart Sheet) for product development; resourcing and line review graphics to allow for appropriate reports
  • Manage customer requests for special order or private label headwear. Develop and maintain effective professional relationships with vendors and agents
  • Assist with suppliers to select appropriate color and various components
  • Manage and respond to all production questions and ensure accuracy to spec sheets and timely resolution for any issues
  • Monitor development process and ensure compliance to schedule and timeframe
  • Evaluate materials for vendors and ensure compliance to spec standards
  • Ensure compliance to all instructions from manufacturer to meet customer requirements and DP standards
  • Review solicited and unsolicited images, industry trends and developments of new product development programs that could help sales force with customer presentations and meetings

Qualifications:

  1. High school diploma required; college degree preferred
  2. Good written and verbal communication skills
  3. Previous experience in Purchasing or Product Development preferred
  4. Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Smartsheet
  5. Excellent Organizational Skills
  6. Strong Attention to Detail is a necessity
